My new friend Chris Barlett--mutual friend of Trevor's--is a professional gay rights activist in the Philadelphia area. Here is an amazing talk he gave recently about a website he created to document the histories of gay men in Philadelphia. Many thanks to Chris for cultivating our sense of gay history and community, which is all too often fragile and of such recent vintage.
Also, Chris, you probably shouldn't ever sing Ethel Merman again (see end of video).
This was quite a fabulous talk, and a wonderful idea. Thanks for posting it, Scott.
And I get the feeling that Chris was feeling a bit rushed (did you notice that the slideshow was moving without him!) and perhaps a bit stressed. He does a WONDERFUL Ethel Merman, usually. For true.
I ought to explain that this presentation was at Ignite Philly. The cool thing about Ignite is that you only have five minutes to make your presentation, and the slides change automatically (as Trevor noticed) every fifteen seconds. Twenty slides for five minutes total! It's a great way to practice public speaking, spontaneity, and stand up, all in one. My Merman was a bit hoarse, I must admit, but my life mission to transmit the Merm to the next generation cannot be stopped by the vicissitudes of my voicebox. She must be sung. She must. I'm glad that Trevor has heard her at her best-- in the hills above Guerneville, I believe.
About Us Trevorade is a community of people just like you who spend their days thinking about sex, gay men's health, and HIV/AIDS. Welcome!
We Need Your Support We're supported almost exclusively by donations from generous souls like yourself. So please, if you enjoy the content here, shell out a few gay dollars to help us cover our hosting bills.
