I saw this headline on some other site earlier and I still don't fully get it. I mean I like Ellen just fine, but I can't imagine what she's possibly going to bring to the show other than comic relief.
Poor cuckoo Paula was often kind of a mess on the show...but at least she had SOME credibility in the music world....but Ellen?? She did a single week guest judging on "So You Think You Can Dance" this past season and, while she made some funny remarks, she wasn't much use as a "judge" because she didn't actually have anything of any real merit to say. I imagine it'll be a similar deal on Idol....although at least vocal performance seems to be a little bit easier to judge, perhaps than dance----I mean it's probably easier for a layperson to determine if someone is hitting screechy sharp notes than it is to determine if their "rhumba rolls" are good or their "leading with their heels" or their "turnout is good" (all dance technique critiques that the dancers might hear from actual dance experts).
